• Benzalkonium chloride: it can bring about serious irritation and allergies for the skin, eyes and respiratory system.
  • BHA-butylated hydroxyanisole: it can cause skin depigmentation and is suspected of being cancerous.
  • Hair colouring based on Coal tar or derivatives (e.g. Aminophenol, Diaminobenzene, Phenylenediamine): well-known cancerous agent.
  • DMDM idantoina & bronopol: it releases formaldehyde, well-known cancerous agent.
  • Formaldehyde: well-known cancerous agent.
  • Hydroquinone: a chemical skin whitener, it can cause a skin disorder called ochronosis. In studies on animals it has brought about tumour development.
  • Methylisothiazolinone and Methylchloroisothiazolinone: among the most common irritants, sensitizing substances and cause of contact allergies. It can be neurotoxic.
  • Oxybenzone: irritation, allergies, skin sensitization, disturbs the hormonal system.
  • Parabens (propyl-, isopropyl-, butlyl- and isobutylparabens): suspected of being cancerous and disturbing the endocrine system and of causing reproductive and developmental disorders.
  • PEG/Ceteareth/Polyethylene: compounds often contaminated with 1,4-dioxane: easily penetrates the skin and is suspected of being cancerous.
  • Petroleum distillates: produced in refineries and are often contaminated by impurities that cause cancer. Possible contact dermatitis.
  • Phthalates: disturbances to the male reproductive system. Pregnant women should avoid nail varnish with Dibutyl Phthalate. Sometimes present in “fragrances”.
  • Resorcinol: skin irritant, toxic for the immune system and frequent cause of allergies to hair colorants. In tests on animals it has been shown to disturb the normal functioning of the thyroid.
  • Perfume with allergens: it can cause allergies and disturb the hormonal system.
